The BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition at the University of Westminster is designed for anyone passionate about food, health, and the science of how diet affects our bodies. It’s a great choice if you enjoy biology, want to tackle public health challenges, or see yourself making a difference in communities through better nutrition.
Curriculum Structure
Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build the scientific foundation you need to understand nutrition from the inside out. You’ll study Cell Biology and Human Physiology to see how the body works, while Principles of Human Nutrition introduces the science of what we eat. Alongside this, Metabolism of Nutrition and Exercise and Psychology and Sociology of Health and Well-being give you a first look at how nutrition connects with behaviour and society.
Year 2
In second year, you start applying that science to real health issues. Diet in Health and Disease looks at how food choices influence medical conditions, while Applied Nutrition puts theory into practice. You’ll also explore Exercise Physiology in Action and Metabolic Biochemistry, plus learn Research Methods so you’re ready to design your own studies. A professional skills module ensures you start thinking and working like a nutritionist.
Year 3
Your final year is about pulling it all together and going deeper. You’ll complete a Final Year Project in Life Sciences on a topic that inspires you, plus advanced modules like Applied Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition in Practice, and Psychology of Sport, Exercise and Nutrition. Options such as Gene Editing and Genomics or Nutrition in Emergencies let you tailor your studies to your interests and career plans.

Reputation (Employability & Rankings)
Westminster nutrition graduates are well-prepared for roles in public health, consultancy, food industry, sport & fitness, and research.
The University’s London location gives you access to placements, networks, and career opportunities that few other places can match.
Careers support is built into the degree, helping many graduates transition smoothly into jobs or further study.
On this course, you won’t just be sitting in lecture theatres — you’ll be learning by doing from day one. Westminster gives you access to professional-level labs and specialist equipment, so you can practice the same techniques used in nutrition research and industry. You’ll get comfortable with biochemical testing, analysing food and nutrients, measuring body composition, and even working in group projects that mirror how nutritionists operate in real life. And if you want to take your skills further, there’s the option of a placement year in industry or studying abroad.
Here’s a taste of what that looks like in practice:
Modern bioscience labs where you’ll do hands-on work in nutritional analysis, metabolism studies, and body composition measurement.
The Centre for Nutraceuticals, a specialist research hub with state-of-the-art facilities like analytical labs, a phlebotomy suite, a tissue culture lab, and even a food preparation kitchen for experimental studies.
Full access to the Cavendish Library and its nutrition subject guides, giving you dedicated resources and librarian support for your projects and research.
A chance to tailor your learning in later years towards Human Nutrition or Human Nutrition with Exercise Science, depending on your interests.
The option to take a professional placement year in industry or a study abroad year, giving you valuable real-world experience and international perspective.
A mix of practical assessments, group projects, and lab work that ensure you graduate with experience, not just theory.
