3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
The BSc (Hons) Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Science at De Montfort University is a dynamic program designed for students interested in both the development of medicines and the science behind personal care and cosmetic products. This degree bridges pharmaceutical science with the innovation of cosmetic formulations, giving students a unique opportunity to explore two thriving industries. The course begins with a foundation in chemistry, biology, physiology, and pharmaceutics, before moving into advanced topics such as drug delivery systems, dermatological science, cosmetic formulation, and regulatory requirements for both pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The program emphasizes how products are designed, tested, and brought safely to market, equipping students with both scientific expertise and an understanding of industry standards. By blending science, creativity, and practical training, this course prepares graduates to contribute to improving human health, wellbeing, and personal care.
Hands-on experience is a defining feature of the program. Students gain practical skills through extensive laboratory work, where they learn how to formulate and test pharmaceutical and cosmetic products using industry-standard equipment. Research projects allow students to investigate real-world challenges such as skin health, controlled drug release, or innovative cosmetic technologies. The program also offers opportunities for work placements in pharmaceutical, healthcare, and cosmetic companies, giving students valuable exposure to industry practices and professional environments. Throughout the course, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication are developed through group projects and case studies, mirroring the collaborative nature of industry. These experiences ensure students graduate not just with knowledge, but with the applied skills employers value.
Graduates of this program are highly versatile, able to pursue careers in both pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Many go on to roles in research and development, formulation science, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs. The course also opens doors to careers in product safety testing, clinical trials, and consumer product innovation. Cosmetic science graduates can work with leading global brands in skincare, haircare, and personal care, while pharmaceutical science graduates may enter roles in drug development or manufacturing. This program also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study, including MSc or PhD research in pharmaceutical or cosmetic sciences.
