Program Overview

Kingston’s MPharm Pharmacy (Hons) is a fully accredited four-year degree that prepares you to become a prescribing pharmacist at the point of registration. It’s ideal for students who want to combine scientific expertise with clinical practice, working across hospitals, GP surgeries, community pharmacies, and industry settings.


Curriculum structure

Year 1
You’ll build a strong foundation in cell biology, human physiology, and pharmaceutical chemistry, with modules like Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Drug Delivery and Wellbeing and Health. You’ll also study Pharmacy Law, Ethics and Practice, gaining early exposure to dispensing, minor illness management, and counter prescribing.

Year 2
This year focuses on integrating science with clinical practice. You’ll explore modules such as Drug Design, Delivery and Quality Control, Cardiorespiratory and Endocrine, and Clinical Skills 1, while learning how conditions like depression and atrial fibrillation are managed in hospital, community, and industrial pharmacy settings.

Year 3
You’ll study disease states across body systems, including cancer, diabetes, mental health, and liver disease. Modules like Neurology, Mental Health and Cardiovascular and Infection, Immunology, Haematology and Cancer are supported by patient interaction and interprofessional learning, helping you apply theory to real-world care.

Year 4
You’ll complete a Research Project and study advanced modules like Clinical Skills and Leadership and Integrated and Holistic Therapeutics. You’ll run public health campaigns, analyse prescriptions, and undertake 20 placement and interprofessional activity days — mostly in hospital and community pharmacies — to refine your professional and leadership skills.
