MPharm Pharmacy

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Liverpool John Moores University

Program Overview

LJMU’s MPharm Pharmacy is a clinically integrated, science-driven degree that prepares you to become a confident, prescribing-ready pharmacist. It’s ideal for students who want to combine advanced pharmaceutical science with hands-on patient care — all within one of the UK’s oldest and most respected pharmacy schools.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll study Integrated Foundations of Pharmacy, a comprehensive module covering anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and patient-focused systems like blood, GI tract, and peripheral nervous system. Learning is continuously applied to practice through campus-based simulations and early placements.

Year 2
The Medicines, Patients and the Pharmacist module builds on Year 1 with topics like the central nervous system, cardiovascular and respiratory systems, and infection control. You’ll deepen your understanding of formulary development, pharmacy law, and ethics while continuing placements and interprofessional learning.

Year 3
In The Complexities of Healthcare, you’ll explore mental health, immunology, endocrine disorders, oncology, and complete a pharmacy-focused research project. Clinical reasoning and independent prescribing skills become central, supported by advanced simulation and patient engagement.

Year 4
Advancing Person-Centred Care focuses on integrating all prior learning to treat the patient as a whole. You’ll refine your prescribing skills, clinical judgement, and decision-making through simulated practice and real-world scenarios — preparing you for the Foundation Training Year.
