Curriculum Structure

Year 1
Your first year builds a strong foundation in essential biological sciences. You’ll study modules such as Introductory Skills in Molecular Biosciences, Introductory Skills in Microbiology, and Basis of Life, developing practical skills in data collection, experimental techniques, and problem-solving. This year prepares you for more specialized studies ahead.

Year 2
In the second year, you’ll deepen your knowledge with modules like Advanced Topics in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Advanced Topics in Microbiology 2. These research-led modules will introduce you to current topics such as DNA damage, stem cells, antibiotic resistance, and human-microbe interactions. You’ll also have the opportunity to choose a theme to specialize in: Molecular Medicine, Infection and Disease, or Genome Biology and Disease.

Year 3
Your final year focuses on applying your knowledge to real-world scenarios. You’ll undertake an extended research project, allowing you to explore a topic of your choice in depth. Modules like Cancer Biology and Visualising Viruses will expose you to cutting-edge research and techniques. You’ll also have the chance to gain practical experience through a Year in Industry or Study Abroad option, further enhancing your employability.
