Managing natural hazards is becoming increasingly complex due to a combination of factors, including the spread of cities into hazard-prone areas and the influence of climate change (e.g. more intense/frequent and irregular hurricanes). Managing these hazards therefore needs a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, which is what NHM at Chester provides. This ranges from studying volcanic processes and developing policies and emergency plans, to the use of the latest technology (e.g. drones, augmented/virtual reality) to map disaster areas. The range of skills developed as part of this course has resulted in our graduates being highly sought after by employers.

IELTS Academic: Undergraduate: 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any band).

The knowledge, skills and understanding you will gain during the course will allow you to pursue a wide range of careers. The graduates work in professions across a range of sectors, including Emergency management, hazard mapping, insurance, flood risk managment and enginering, surveying, teaching, resilience and consultancy. Some of our graduates continue their studies and go on to gain PhDs, masters degrees and professional qualifications.
