BA (Hons) Economics with Law

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Goldsmiths University of London

Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Economics with Law at Goldsmiths blends a strong foundation in economic thinking with an insightful understanding of legal principles, giving you the tools to explore how markets, policy and law interact in society. It’s ideal for curious students who enjoy analytical thinking and want a degree that opens doors to careers in business, policy, law or public service.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Introducing Economics and Law

Your first year gives you a solid introduction to both economics and law. You’ll study core units like Principles of Economics, which shows you how markets and decision-making work, and Foundations of Law, where you’ll begin to understand how legal systems operate and protect rights. Alongside these, subjects such as Quantitative Methods for Economics help you build key analytical skills, while introductory law topics help you start thinking like a legal professional.

Year 2 – Building Analytical and Legal Knowledge

In your second year, you’ll deepen your understanding of both subjects and begin to see how they connect in real-world situations. Modules such as Microeconomics and Market Analysis and Macroeconomic Policy strengthen your economic insight, while Contract Law and Criminal Law introduce core areas of legal study. You’ll also work on projects and case studies that help you apply your learning to practical problems, sharpening your ability to think critically from both economic and legal perspectives.

Year 3 – Advanced Topics and Personal Focus

Your final year brings more advanced study and the chance to shape your degree around your interests. You might take International Economics, Law of the European Union or Public Policy and Regulation, exploring how economics and law influence complex societal challenges. You’ll also complete a major research project or dissertation, where you choose a topic that excites you and demonstrate your ability to analyse, argue and communicate with confidence.
