LLB Law with Politics

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Keele University

Program Overview

If you’re interested in understanding how laws shape society and how political decisions influence everyday life, Keele’s Law with Politics degree is a great fit. It blends legal training with real-world political insight, providing a well-rounded foundation for careers in law, government, public service, or international organisations.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year is all about building confidence with the basics. You’ll explore how the legal system works through Legal Essentials and Public Law, where you learn how governments are structured and what protects citizens’ rights. Alongside this, Making Sense of Politics introduces you to the major ideas, debates, and global issues shaping today’s political landscape.

Year 2

As you move into the second year, the course becomes more applied and analytical. Modules like Obligations and Law of Real Property deepen your legal knowledge, helping you understand how contracts, disputes, and land ownership work in practice. On the politics side, you can explore themes such as global democratic challenges or political behaviour in modules like Global Democracy Under Threat? or The Dark Side of Politics, which analyse the forces shaping modern politics.

Year 3

Your final year lets you tailor your degree to your interests. You can specialise through modules such as Law of Trusts, Corporate Law, Law and the Family, or Law and Equality and Human Rights. You’ll also complete a substantial project—either a dissertation, a community legal outreach project through Streetlaw, or a law reform proposal—allowing you to apply your knowledge in a way that feels meaningful and practical.

Focus Areas

Law, governance, political analysis, democracy, human rights, legal skills, public policy, and real-world legal practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the degree, you’ll be able to think critically, build strong arguments, analyse political issues, and apply legal reasoning to real-life problems. You’ll also gain hands-on experience through placements, workshops, and community engagement opportunities that strengthen your confidence and professional readiness.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

The programme includes all seven core areas of legal knowledge you need for future legal training, ensuring you’re on the right path if you want to progress into legal practice in the United Kingdom.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)

Keele consistently scores highly for student experience and outcomes. It is ranked Top 15 in the United Kingdom for graduate employability, and its Politics discipline is ranked Top 10 in England among broad-based universities, reflecting strong teaching quality and excellent graduate prospects.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

One of the biggest strengths of studying Law with Politics at Keele is how practical the learning experience feels from day one. You are not just absorbing theory — you are constantly putting it into practice. Whether you are interviewing real clients through Keele’s legal clinics, presenting arguments in the Moot Court Room, or spending time on placement, you will always be building skills that translate directly into future careers. Keele creates an environment where you can grow in confidence, learn by doing, and really understand how law and politics work in real life.

To give you a sense of how hands-on the programme is, here are some of the key opportunities you will have:

  • Work directly with real clients through Keele’s Legal Advice Clinics (Divorce Clinic, Commercial Clinic, and Small Claims Clinic), where you interview people, prepare case notes, and support them under supervision.

  • Be part of CLOCK — Community Legal Outreach Collaboration Keele, a nationally recognised project where you guide individuals who are representing themselves in court. You work alongside judges, mediators, and support agencies, developing skills that feel incredibly real and meaningful.

  • Practise advocacy in Keele’s Moot Court Room, a realistic courtroom space where you learn how to present legal arguments, work in teams, debate confidently, and think on your feet.

  • Complete a structured 75-hour placement through the Legal Professional Development module, giving you professional experience in a legal or political setting before you graduate.

  • Collaborate through digital tools and group projects, using platforms like discussion boards, wikis, scenario-based exercises and online drafting spaces — all designed to reflect the way modern legal practice actually works.

  • Choose a Placement Year or an International Study Year, which lets you build experience in the workplace or study abroad to gain a global perspective.

  • Access specialised learning spaces, including the Law School library and dedicated study areas where you can work with peers, find resources, and attend workshops that strengthen both academic and professional skills.
