You’ll develop essential legal skills, including mooting, negotiation, and client interviewing, alongside key transferable skills such as effective communication and public speaking. To further enhance your practical learning, we offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience through our pro bono legal clinic in your third year. This real-world exposure allows you to apply legal knowledge, develop professional confidence, and contribute meaningfully to the community.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

1. Pro Bono Legal Clinic

In the third year, students have the opportunity to work in the University of Brighton Legal Clinic, offering free legal advice to small businesses, employees, and charities. This hands-on experience allows students to apply their legal knowledge in real-world settings. ​University of Brighton

2. Placement Year

The LLB programme includes an optional placement year, enabling students to gain practical experience in legal or related roles. This opportunity enhances employability and provides valuable industry insights. University of Brighton

3. Mooting, Negotiation, and Client Interviewing

Students develop essential legal skills through activities such as mooting, negotiation, and client interviewing. These extracurricular opportunities complement academic learning and prepare students for professional practice. University of Brighton

4. Community Legal Companion Scheme

The Community Legal Companion (CLC) scheme is a collaborative social justice project involving law students, legal services providers, third-sector advice agencies, and law courts. Students participate in this initiative to promote access to justice and gain practical experience. The University of Brighton

5. Knowledge Exchange Projects

Students engage in Knowledge Exchange projects, collaborating with communities and businesses to apply research and learning for real-world benefits. These projects enhance students' practical skills and contribute to societal development. University of Brighton

Progression & Future Opportunities

⚖️ Legal Career Pathways:

  • Solicitor: Graduates can pursue the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to qualify as solicitors. Brighton's offers SQE-aligned support and practical legal training.

  • Barrister: Those aiming for the Bar can undertake a Bar Training Course (BTC) and apply for pupillage.

  • Other roles include paralegal, legal executive, advocate, or tribunal officer.

📚 Further Study & Specialisation:

  • LLM (Master of Laws) in areas like Criminal Justice, Human Rights, or International Law

  • Postgraduate diplomas in legal practice, dispute resolution, or compliance

  • PhD or MPhil for research or academic careers

💼 Careers Outside the Traditional Legal Route:
