Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Understanding the Legal System

Your first year introduces you to the essential building blocks of law. You’ll explore core subjects such as Contract Law, Public Law and Legal Skills and Methods, which help you understand how the legal system operates and how to interpret and apply legal principles. This year builds your confidence with case reading, legal reasoning and developing clear, structured arguments.

Year 2 – Deepening Your Legal Knowledge

In your second year, you move into more specialised areas of law and begin applying your growing expertise to real scenarios. You’ll study modules like Criminal Law, Land Law and Tort Law, each helping you understand how legal rules protect individuals, resolve disputes and support justice in everyday life. You’ll also take part in activities that strengthen your research, communication and analytical skills.

Year 3 – Advanced Study and Professional Preparation

Your final year allows you to shape your study around your interests and future ambitions. You’ll explore advanced modules such as Equity and Trusts and choose from a range of optional subjects in areas like human rights, family law or international law. You’ll also undertake a major project or dissertation, giving you the chance to research a legal issue you care about and showcase your ability to think independently and argue with clarity.

 Mooting & Mock Trials

a. Mooting Competitions

Edge Hill University hosts internal mooting competitions, such as the Law Department Internal Mooting Competition and the Law Department Debating Cup, where students can showcase their advocacy skills.
