Physics with Artificial Intelligence BSc

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Leeds

Program Overview

The Physics with Artificial Intelligence BSc at Leeds blends core physics with cutting-edge AI, preparing students to tackle scientific challenges using machine learning, data science, and computational modelling.

This program suits curious minds who want to explore the laws of nature while mastering AI tools that are reshaping science and industry. You’ll study quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, and solid-state physics alongside modules in machine learning, deep learning, and Python programming — all within a research-driven environment.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll build a strong foundation in physics and computing. Modules like Mechanics, Relativity and Astrophysics and Thermodynamics introduce classical physics and energy systems. Electronics, Solid State and Introduction to Quantum Physics covers atomic structure and circuit design. Vibrations, Waves and Optics explores oscillations and light behavior. In Coding and Experimental Physics, you’ll develop Python skills and lab techniques. AI begins with Applications of Artificial Intelligence, and you’ll choose an optional module such as Introduction to Python for Machine Learning or Nanotechnology.

Year 2
You’ll deepen your physics knowledge with Quantum Mechanics, Electromagnetism, and Condensed Matter Physics. Statistical Mechanics and Computation teaches data analysis and programming. AI advances with Machine Learning Fundamentals with Applications in Science and Engineering, while Experimental Skills for Physics with AI strengthens your lab and research abilities. You’ll also explore ethics, career planning, and scientific communication.

Year 3
You'll focus on research and specialization. In Advanced Topics in Physics, you’ll study areas like quantum photonics, bionanophysics, and star formation. The BSc Research Project lets you apply AI to real-world physics problems — from quantum systems to astrophysics. Deep Learning Fundamentals with Applications in Science and Engineering introduces neural networks, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and GPU computing. Optional modules may include Cosmology, Theoretical Particle Physics, and Molecular Simulation.
