Curriculum Structure

Year One

You begin with the foundations: Analysis, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations from Mathematics, alongside Classical Mechanics and Electricity and Magnetism from Physics. Weekly tutorials and laboratory sessions help you apply theory to real problems, while small-group supervisions ensure you build confidence in both disciplines.

Year Two

You’ll deepen your knowledge with Quantum Mechanics, Vector Analysis, and Complex Analysis, while exploring Thermal Physics and Waves and Optics. This year offers flexibility to choose optional modules, allowing you to broaden your learning or specialise further in areas like geometry or astrophysics.

Year Three

Advanced topics take centre stage: Group Theory, Partial Differential Equations, and Electromagnetic Theory provide mathematical and physical depth. Laboratory work becomes more independent, and you’ll have the chance to select specialist modules such as Particle Physics or Differential Geometry, aligning your studies with your interests.

Year Four

Your final year is research-focused. You’ll undertake a major project jointly supervised by Mathematics and Physics staff, applying advanced methods to a real problem. Alongside, you’ll study specialist modules such as Quantum Field Theory or General Relativity, preparing you for postgraduate study or high-level industry roles.
