Economics, Politics and International Relations BA (Hons)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Oxford Brookes University

Program Overview

If you want to understand how economies work, how political decisions are made, and how countries interact on the global stage, this degree is for you. The BA (Hons) Economics, Politics and International Relations at Oxford Brookes brings together three interconnected fields, giving you the knowledge and analytical skills to make sense of the world’s most pressing challenges — from global trade and public policy to diplomacy, conflict, and cooperation.

 Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Building Your Foundations
Your first year sets the stage by introducing you to the core principles of economics, politics, and international relations. You’ll explore how markets function through Introduction to Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, examine how political systems operate in Political Socialisation and Ideology, and trace the historical roots of global politics in From Empire to States: The Origins of International Relations. Along the way, you’ll start developing the research and data analysis skills that underpin all three disciplines.

Year 2 – Expanding Your Perspective
In the second year, you’ll dive deeper and begin tailoring your degree to your interests. Economics modules such as Advanced Applied Econometrics will strengthen your quantitative and analytical skills, while Researching Politics and International Relations will teach you how to design and conduct meaningful political research. You’ll also explore key global issues — from conflict and identity to governance and power — and have the chance to study abroad or complete a placement to see how your learning applies in the real world.

Year 3 – Specialising and Leading Your Own Research
Your final year is where you bring everything together. You’ll complete an independent Dissertation that lets you investigate a topic you’re passionate about, applying the theories and methods you’ve learned throughout the course. You can also choose advanced optional modules focused on areas such as economic policy, international trade, global governance, or diplomatic relations, building expertise aligned with your future career ambitions.
