Program Overview

This BSc (Hons) Economics at University of Bradford offers you a hands-on route to understand how economies function, from micro-behaviour to global markets. Curriculum structure:

Year 1: You’ll study core modules like Principles of Economic Theory, Quantitative Methods for Economists, Introduction to Financial Markets & Banking and Critical Thinking & Presentation Skills for Economists. These equip you with foundational knowledge in micro- and macroeconomics, introduce you to statistical tools, and build your confidence in data and presentation-driven tasks. 

Year 2: You’ll progress into modules such as Intermediate Economic Theory, Further Mathematics for Economists, Financial Markets and Research Skills & Econometrics. In this year you’ll refine your quantitative and econometric skills, explore financial systems in depth and begin applying economic theory to more complex problems. 

Year 3: A placement year allows you to apply your academic learning within a wide range of industries, including private, public, and not-for-profit sectors. You will gain hands-on experience, develop skills such as communication, problem-solving, and entrepreneurship, and build a professional network that will benefit your future career.

Year 4: In the final year you’ll take advanced modules like Advanced Economic Theory, Econometrics & Quantitative Economics, Financial Economics & International Finance and options such as Business Economics & Industrial Organisation or Trade, Regionalism & Globalisation. You’ll also complete a dissertation or major project, leveraging your skills to work independently on real-world economic issues.

  • The programme offers a placement year or study-abroad year option, enabling you to apply your knowledge in workplaces such as the Treasury, DWP or private finance firms, boosting your employability. 

  • You’ll be supported by the Career Booster Programme, which gives you certifications like ECDL (digital literacy), Sage 50 accounting, Big Data analytics, and AWS Academy cloud-skills credentials, all integrated into your degree journey.
