4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Bristol

Program Overview

The BSc Economics and Econometrics at the University of Bristol integrates economic theory with advanced statistical and quantitative methods to analyse economic behaviour, data and policy. It suits students who enjoy mathematics and data analysis and want careers in economic research, finance, public policy, data science or related quantitative fields.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students build foundations with Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Mathematics for Economics, and Introduction to Statistics and Econometrics, learning how individuals and markets behave and gaining essential mathematical and statistical tools for analysing economic data.

Year 2:
In the second year, students progress to Intermediate Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and more rigorous Econometrics and Data Analysis modules, deepening their understanding of economic theory while applying statistical methods to real-world economic datasets and models.

 Year 3 (Study Abroad):
The third year is spent studying at an international partner institution, where students take modules in economics and management in a different academic and cultural setting. This year abroad strengthens global awareness, exposes students to new teaching and policy perspectives, and enhances adaptability and cross-cultural communication — all valuable for international careers.

Year 4:
In the final year, students take advanced units such as Advanced Econometric Methods, Applied Economic Modelling and options like Time Series Analysis or Big Data for Economics, where they apply sophisticated quantitative techniques to forecast, interpret and model economic outcomes. They also undertake a Dissertation or major research project that integrates theory, data and econometric methods to address an applied economic question.
