BSc (Hons) Economics

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of East Anglia

Program Overview

This degree gives you a solid grounding in how individuals, firms and governments make economic decisions, and how those decisions shape society and global markets. It’s ideal if you’re curious, enjoy working with data and want to build the analytical tools to influence policy, business strategies or economic thinking.

Curriculum structure:

Year 1: You’ll start with modules such as Introductory Mathematics for Economists and Statistics and Data, alongside core micro- and macro-economics. This foundation year helps you learn to use data, understand economic behaviour, and prepare your quantitative and conceptual toolkit for more advanced topics.

Year 2: In your second year you’ll build on that foundation with intermediate topics like Intermediate Microeconomics and Intermediate Macroeconomics, plus further work in econometrics or economic modelling. You’ll begin to link models to real-world economic problems and sharpen your analytical skills.

Final Year: In the final year you’ll specialise by choosing optional modules—think Behavioural Economics, Trade and Development, or advanced Quantitative Methods. You’ll also engage in independent work, applying your skills to real data, and prepare to transition into employment or postgraduate study.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

On the BSc (Hons) Economics programme at University of East Anglia (UEA), you won’t just sit in lectures—you’ll work with real economic data, engage in group analysis, and take advantage of industry-linked placement opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities designed to bring economics to life. From using advanced software tools to completing a full year in industry or research, this is about developing practical skills you’ll use as a graduate. Here are some of the key practical experiences and facilities offered:

  • A placement year option in year 3: The School of Economics offers a 9-12 month placement year variant of the degree, giving you substantive real-world experience.

  • Excellent IT and learning resources: According to the National Student Survey data for recent graduates, 91% rated learning resources/facilities positively; 97% said the IT resources supported their learning.

  • Use of specialist software and data tools—while the programme page doesn’t list every software by name, it emphasises quantitative methods and data-analysis modules such as Introductory Mathematics for Economists and Statistics and Data

  • Campus resources: UEA’s Norwich campus provides modern libraries, computing labs and a research-intensive environment via the School of Economics, which is part of UEA’s strong research base.
