Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Building Your Foundations

In your first year, you’ll get to grips with the basics of politics and international relations, exploring how governments and global systems work. You’ll study modules like Democracy and Democratization, Discovering World Politics, and Comparative Democracies, giving you a solid foundation and the tools to think critically about the world around you.

Year 2: Digging Deeper and Developing Skills

Year two is all about honing your understanding and analysis. You’ll explore Global Security, looking at modern threats and how the world responds, study Political Economy to understand the link between politics and money, and dive into International Relations Theory, helping you make sense of current global challenges.

Year 3: Specialise and Take the Lead

In your final year, you’ll have the chance to focus on what excites you most and complete your own research through the Dissertation. You’ll also take modules like Advanced International Relations and Political Analysis, giving you the confidence and skills to critically evaluate real-world politics and prepare for your future career.


Placement Year

Between years two and three, you can take an optional placement year. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience, either in the UK or abroad, and apply everything you’ve learned so far. Placements can be paid, voluntary, full-time, or part-time, helping you boost your CV and get a taste of the real world before you graduate.
