This course is perfect for curious and ambitious students who want to explore power, diplomacy, conflict, and cooperation, while also gaining the research and communication skills that employers truly value.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
You’ll begin by building a strong foundation in both politics and international relations. Core modules such as Global Governance and International Institutions and Origins and Foundations of International Relations introduce you to the big ideas about how countries and organisations interact. Alongside this, modules like Parties, Populism and Protest and Policy Lab will show you how political movements emerge and how policies are designed. The Thinking Globally Discovery module encourages you to connect what you learn with real-world global issues.

Year 2
In your second year, the course becomes more analytical. You’ll study Reshaping Global Order to understand changing power structures around the world, explore Theories of Power and the State to deepen your grasp of political theory, and take Understanding Political Research, where you’ll gain practical skills in collecting and analysing data. This year also helps you prepare for life after graduation by developing professional skills and exploring possible career paths.

Year 3
Your final year is all about specialisation and independence. The highlight is your Politics & International Relations Dissertation, where you’ll research a topic that matters to you with guidance from an academic expert. You’ll also choose from specialist modules such as Critical Political Theory, Politics of Borders & Migration, Democracy Under Pressure, or Global Capitalism and its Discontent. These options let you tailor your degree towards the areas you’re most passionate about.
