3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Bristol

Program Overview

The BSc Politics and Sociology at Bristol is designed for students who want to understand how power, society, and culture interact on both a local and global stage. This program is perfect if you’re curious about political systems, social change, and the forces that shape everyday life—while also building strong analytical, research, and communication skills valued by employers worldwide.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a foundation in both disciplines, studying Political Concepts and Political Systems of the UK and EU, alongside core sociology units such as Key Ideas in Sociology and Introduction to Social Inquiry. These courses give you a strong grounding in how governments function and how societies are structured, preparing you to connect political thought with social realities.

Year 2
You’ll deepen your knowledge with more specialised units. In politics, you might explore Democracy or International Political Economy, while in sociology, you’ll examine areas like Social Inequalities or Globalisation and Society. At the same time, you’ll strengthen your research and data analysis skills through dedicated methodology training.

Year 3
Your final year gives you the chance to specialise in the topics that inspire you most. You’ll complete a dissertation in either Politics or Sociology—an independent project guided by expert academics—while choosing advanced options such as Gender and Society, US Foreign Policy, or Racism and Migration in Europe. This year allows you to shape your degree around your personal and career interests.
