Linguistics and Psychology BA (Hons)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Bangor University

Program Overview

Program Overview:
This three-year joint honours programme combines the science of language with psychological insights, exploring how our minds process, use, and adapt language. Designed for students interested in both cognitive psychology and linguistics, it offers a richly interdisciplinary experience with real-world applications.

Curriculum Structure

Year One
You’ll begin with foundational modules such as Foundations of Linguistics, Investigating Psychology, Understanding Psychology, and Linguistics Research Methods. These courses introduce the scientific study of language structure and mind, teaching key research skills across both fields.

Year Two
In your second year, you’ll study modules covering phonology, syntax, psycholinguistics, and cognition—alongside further core psychology modules. You’ll engage with experimental methods in linguistics and interpersonal aspects of communication, as well as early-stage applied language psychology.

Final Year

Focus areas:
Language structure and use, psycholinguistics, child language development, cognition, research methods in linguistics and psychology.

Learning outcomes:
Understand the interaction of language and mind, design and interpret research in both disciplines, critically assess linguistic and psychological evidence, communicate findings effectively across contexts.
