Program Overview:
This three-year joint honours degree brings together psychology and sociology to give you a nuanced understanding of how individuals think and behave within broader social systems. You develop insight into cognitive and developmental processes alongside critical awareness of society, culture, and inequality.

Curriculum Structure

Year One
You begin with core interdisciplinary modules including Sociology Imagination, Researching Social Life, Child Development and Behaviour, Cognition and Behaviour, Personality, and Social Influences on Thinking and Behaviour. These modules combine psychological theory with sociological context to build foundational knowledge.

Year Two
In your second year, you deepen both disciplines with compulsory courses like Self and Society, Sociology of Everyday Life, Individual Differences and Interactive Research Methods. You also choose optional topics such as Youth, Resistance and Social Control, Global Inequalities, Racism and Ethnicity, and Development Across the Lifespan.

Year Three
Your final year centres on the Living Theory module and a joint Psychology and Sociology dissertation. You’ll also select specialist electives such as Gender and Sexuality, Counselling Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Health Psychology, Cyberpsychology, or Work Psychology.

Placement or Study Abroad Option:
You can opt for a Sociology and Social Policy work placement in your final year, and there are opportunities for studying abroad via international exchange programmes.

This degree focuses on cognitive and individual differences, identity and society, social inequality, research methods, mental health, and the psychological dimensions of sociological questions.
