4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
This four-year degree brings together psychological theory, research methods and educational practice so you’ll gain deep insight into how people learn and develop in different settings — from schools to community organisations and beyond. You’ll also have the chance to spend a year abroad at a partner university, giving you an international dimension to your education.
Curriculum structure
Year 1:
In the first year you’ll build a strong foundation in both psychology and education: for example you’ll explore core psychological ideas like perception, learning and cognition, alongside units on how educational settings function, how children and adults develop, and on research methods. You may also encounter a unit such as Education in Practice, where you start linking theory to real-life educational settings.
Year 2:
In your second year you’ll deepen your psychological understanding and apply it more directly within educational contexts: you’ll study major areas such as developmental psychology, educational psychology, research methods (e.g., quantitative and qualitative), and begin to look at the diversity of educational environments and how learning and teaching differ across them. You’ll also undertake small-scale projects and have options to tailor your learning.
Year 3 (Abroad):
If you meet the required grades at the end of Year 1, your third year will be spent studying at one of Bristol’s overseas partner institutions — in an English-speaking university in countries such as Australia, the US or Hong Kong. During this year abroad you’ll engage with new educational settings and different cultural contexts, broadening your global perspective on learning and psychology.
Year 4:
On return to Bristol you’ll complete your final year with advanced modules and a research dissertation or major project — you’ll integrate your abroad experience, refine your psychological and educational knowledge, and prepare for professional pathways or further study. While specific unit names aren’t listed in the public summary, you’ll build on your prior work and bring everything together.
