Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and the mind. You will explore how factors like nature versus nurture, biology versus culture, and genes versus environment influence human thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through a critical examination of theoretical ideas and research evidence, you will develop the ability to assess current psychological theories and create your own insights.
At UEA, you will benefit from research-driven teaching in both small and large groups. The School of Psychology is ranked 14th in research quality for Psychology, Psychiatry, and Neuroscience in the Times Higher Education REF 2021 Analysis. You will receive continuous support from an academic advisor, as well as access to the University’s Learning Enhancement and Wellbeing Teams.
The course blends disciplines, applying behavioural and social science theories to real-world issues. You’ll be trained in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, and will have the option to select from a wide range of psychology modules. If you discover new areas of interest, you can switch to a different psychology pathway. In your third year, you can gain hands-on experience through a work-based placement, enhancing your employability and career prospects.
In the final year, you’ll have access to state-of-the-art labs, including virtual reality and eye-tracking equipment, and undertake an independent research project. You will gain a deep understanding of human psychology and develop essential skills valued by employers. Graduates go on to careers in human resources, teaching, media, research, healthcare, criminal justice, and more, or pursue postgraduate study.
