BSc Hons Psychology

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Plymouth

Program Overview

Psychology has always intrigued me because of its power to uncover the complexities of human behaviour, thoughts, and emotions. From understanding the impact of early attachment on adult relationships to exploring the cognitive processes that shape our decision-making, the subject offers a scientific yet empathetic lens to interpret the world. I am particularly drawn to Plymouth University’s BSc (Hons) Psychology because of its strong research foundation, emphasis on practical experience, and its accreditation by the British Psychological Society.

In my academic journey, I have pursued psychology-related topics in both classroom discussions and independent reading. Books like Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman have deepened my interest in cognitive biases and behavioural economics. Furthermore, participating in group projects and debates has strengthened my communication and analytical skills—both of which are vital in psychological research and practice.

Outside of academics, I volunteered at a local mental health awareness campaign, where I helped organise workshops for teenagers. This experience underscored the importance of applying psychological knowledge to real-life contexts, especially in supporting mental wellbeing.

I am particularly excited by Plymouth’s hands-on approach, including its modern labs and opportunities to participate in ongoing research. I am also keen to explore modules in clinical and social psychology, areas I hope to specialise in later.

Ultimately, I aspire to use this degree as a foundation for postgraduate study and a future career in counselling psychology. I believe Plymouth’s dynamic and supportive learning environment will help me grow both intellectually and personally.
