The BA (Hons) Screenwriting and Producing with Foundation at Regent's University London is designed for aspiring screenwriters, producers, and creative storytellers who want an additional year to build their academic and creative skills before progressing to degree-level study. The Foundation Year develops essential communication, critical thinking, and creative practice, while the degree equips students with professional expertise in screenwriting, producing, project management, and film and television development, preparing them for careers across the global screen industries.

Curriculum Structure

Foundation Year

The Foundation Year develops academic confidence and creative thinking through modules including Critical Thinking, Communications, and Creativity and Entrepreneurship. Students also study Cultural Understanding and Liberal Arts and Media, strengthening research, storytelling, communication, and creative problem-solving skills while preparing for specialist study in screenwriting and producing.

Year 1

Students gain a broad introduction to the film and television industry through modules including Visual Storytelling, Thirty-Minute Script, and Production Skills. They learn script formatting, story development, screenplay structure, producing, directing, editing, and production management while developing original scripts and collaborating on practical filmmaking projects.

Year 2

The second year develops advanced writing and producing skills through modules such as The Creative Producer, Showrunner: Series Concept, and Showrunner: The Pilot. Students create original television series concepts, write one-hour pilot scripts, develop series bibles and pitch decks, analyse intellectual property and screen adaptations, and attend a short film festival to evaluate contemporary industry practice.

Year 3

In the final year, students refine their professional and entrepreneurial capabilities through Major Project I, Major Project II, and advanced screenwriting and producing modules. They develop original film or television projects, strengthen their pitching, financing, marketing, and production skills, and graduate with an industry-ready portfolio of scripts, production materials, and creative projects suitable for professional employment.
