Program Overview

The BA (Hons) Film and Screen Production at Regent's University London prepares aspiring filmmakers to work across every stage of the film and television production process, from concept development to post-production and distribution. Curriculum Structure

Year 1

The first year introduces students to the fundamentals of filmmaking through practical production and storytelling. Students study modules including Visual Storytelling, Studio Production, and Researching and Writing for Filmmakers, while developing skills in directing, producing, cinematography, screenwriting, production management, and collaborative filmmaking through practical film projects.

Year 2

During the second year, students deepen their technical and creative expertise through modules such as Biographical Short Film, Genre Short Film, and Production Design. They explore documentary and narrative filmmaking, refine directing and production techniques, develop specialist technical skills, and gain professional experience through an Industry Challenge, Placement, or Study Abroad opportunity.

Year 3

The final year focuses on advanced professional practice through modules including Major Project I, Major Project II, and Professional Portfolio. Students independently develop, produce, and deliver original film projects while strengthening leadership, project management, post-production, pitching, and entrepreneurial skills to prepare for careers in the international film and television industries.

Produce multiple short drama and documentary films throughout the programme, building a professional showreel and portfolio from the first year onwards.
Work in real film production crews, rotating through industry roles including director, producer, cinematographer, editor, production manager, boom operator, and production assistant to gain experience across the entire production process.
Collaborate with students from Screenwriting and Producing and Acting for Stage and Screen, creating films that mirror professional industry workflows.
Work with Abbey Road Studios composers, who create original film scores for student productions, providing experience of professional cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Gain access to industry-standard production equipment, including RED, Sony Venice, Canon and Blackmagic 6K cinema cameras, Zeiss Compact Prime lenses, Tilta Wireless Follow Focus, ARRI SkyPanels, Dedolights, Celeb lighting, professional sound mixers, Steadicam systems, and wireless video transmission equipment.
Train in specialist post-production facilities, including editing suites, colour grading studio, ADR room, podcasting studio, 5.1 surround sound mixing suite, and a multicamera television studio and gallery.
Use professional software including Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve Studio, Final Draft screenwriting software, and Epidemic Sound with a free student licence during the programme.
Participate in field trips to the Aesthetica Film Festival for networking and industry research, and a residential trip to Brighton for team building, script development, and final-year project preparation.
