Program Overview

Curriculum Structure:

Year 1:
Students are introduced to both documentary and fiction filmmaking, working in small teams to gain hands-on experience with 16mm and digital production. Core modules such as Constructing the Real: Documentary Filmmaking, Creativity and Collaboration (Film), and Introduction to Film and Television allow students to explore different aspects of the craft while building foundational skills in production, editing, and storytelling.

Year 2:
The focus shifts to developing specialist skills in directing, cinematography, screenwriting, producing, editing, and sound. Students engage in larger productions and work-based learning through modules like Camera and Lighting Skills, Contemporary Television Drama, and Work-Based and Placement Learning (Film), giving them practical experience and professional insight.

Placement Year (Optional):
Between Years 2 and 3, students may undertake a year-long industry placement, applying their learning in a professional setting to gain real-world experience.

Year 3:
Students consolidate their skills through advanced projects in drama, documentary, and commercials, supported by a Research Project (Film) and modules such as Advanced Production, Advanced Screenwriting, and Understanding the Film and Television Industry, preparing them for professional careers.
