Program Overview

The Child Development programs prepare students for careers in a wide range of fields, such as providing childcare; teaching in or directing early childhood, after-school, or youth programs; offering parent education workshops and training; conducting field work or research; and serving in a government agency or advocacy organization that supports families. All of these jobs expect college graduates to promote the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children from the pre-natal period through adolescence; provide a safe and nurturing environment; maintain facilities in compliance with appropriate standards; ensure a well-run, purposeful program that uses best practices; keep records; and work with families.
