The family and community services (FCS) major prepares students to work with individuals and families across the lifespan. Family and community services professionals provide assistance and educational opportunities to families, both directly and indirectly, in a wide variety of early childhood settings. Within FCS, students have the opportunity to choose one of two tracks: family science or child development, which allow students to personalize the curriculum to better meet their career goals. The core curriculum is the same for students in each track. Students who are interested in working with infant, toddlers, and preschool children in a variety of early childhood programs should choose the child development option. After completing the degree requirements, students may apply for the North Carolina Infant, Toddler, Family Associate Certificate. This is applied for through the Early Intervention Board at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
