The family and community services (FCS) major prepares students to work with individuals and families across the life span. Family and community services professionals provide assistance and educational opportunities to families, both directly and indirectly, in a wide variety of child and family settings. Within FCS, students have the opportunity to choose one of two tracks: family science or child development, which allow students to personalize the curriculum to better meet their career goals. The core curriculum is the same for students in each track. Students who are interested in family life education or working directly with families should choose the family science option. After completing their degree in the family studies track, students have met the academic qualifications to apply for certification as a Certified Family Life Educator through the National Council on Family Relations.
