WVU Ceramics Area is committed to fostering an environment where students may maximize their learning experience. Whether it is technical or conceptual, sculptural or functional, the WVU faculty work for the development of a course of study for students that promotes the competence of idea development and the technical means to accomplish it. WVU Ceramics emphasizes the development in technical expertise, design and conceptual approaches as a means to expand the student's aesthetic vocabulary. Our goal is to help students gain insight into their professional approach and commitment in their active pursuit of process and self-discovery as artists.

Profile Assessment: Creative-field applicants may be assessed through academic preparation, creative ability, visual thinking and, where required, a portfolio. The portfolio may include finished work as well as sketches, experimentation, process development and written explanations. Architecture may value Mathematics, Physics, drawing and spatial thinking, while Art, Design and Fashion programs may place greater emphasis on originality, technical development and the creative process.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school.
