Stetson University has pioneered a degree that became one of our more popular music degrees. The BMOF, or Bachelor of Music with an Outside Field, is very close to a performance degree, but it has been modified to allow for 20 credits in a field outside of the School of Music. You will have all the benefits and rigor of the lessons, ensemble, theory and history of a traditional music degree, but you will truly leave with multiple types of expertise as you excel in your outside field. Which outside field will you choose Political Science Philosophy or Psychology Marine Biology Health Sciences Communications Studies or Russian Studies The list goes on and on.The opportunity to combine a music education tailored to include your liberal arts or business interest can create unique opportunities for future employment or graduate study. The music with an outside field degree is our most flexible music degree, offering an exciting option to students who value the liberal learning tradition that Stetson was founded on and a world-class education in music.The BMOF students enjoy all that the School of Music offers. The singers participate in choirs and voice lessons, the operas or musical theater productions. The instrumentalists take private lessons from expert faculty while playing in band, orchestra, jazz band or any number of chamber or specialized smaller ensembles. Conducting, music technology and career skills are some of the standard courses taken by all music majors. You will even complete a senior recital with guidance from your applied music instructor through weekly lessons and performance classes.
