Classroom lessons, extra-curricular participation and internships are vital components of the degree program. The program is interdisciplinary in nature with emphasis placed upon courses in music business, music, and business. Music Business and Entertainment Industries majors study music business topics such as copyright, music publishing, record companies, entertainment contracts, artist management, touring, and music marketing; music topics such as music theory, private lessons, music history and literature, keyboard skills, performance, and music technology; and business topics such as economics, accounting, business law, marketing, and management.

Students in the Bachelor of Music in Music Business and Entertainment Industries with Entrepreneurship and Management Emphasis and a minor in Creative American Music degree program have a passion for songwriting and the entreprenurialism and want to pursue careers which combine the two. This program is for Contemporary Performance principals. They come to the Frost School of Music to be with others from across the country who have similar interests and to prepare for a professional career as a performing songwriter for a variety of entrepreneurial opportunities. The degree combines the Music Business program with the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music minor.
