Program Overview

Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business offered a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) with a concentration in Esport Business, designed for students aiming to enter the dynamic and fast-growing global esports industry. While this program is no longer accepting new applicants, it remains a comprehensive example of interdisciplinary business education, combining foundational business knowledge with focused training in esports operations, event management, game design, and digital media.

Students completed 180–186 quarter credits with the option to choose between Three Co-op (5 years), One Co-op (4 years), or No Co-op (4 years) formats. The program’s location in Philadelphia, a vibrant esports hub, offered students strong experiential learning and industry connectivity.

Course overview:

  • Years 1 & 2: General education in writing, civic engagement, humanities, math, and natural sciences, alongside core business subjects such as accounting, economics, business law, marketing, finance, and analytics.

  • Years 3 & 4/5: Specialized coursework included topics such as The Business of Esport, Game Design Lab, Sports and the Law, Event Management, and Strategic Management for Entertainment. Students also selected advanced electives in areas like sports marketing, digital media, or finance.

  • A capstone course in Strategy and Competitive Advantage was required, along with three writing-intensive courses, two of which had to be within the major.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Co-op Program: Up to 18 months of full-time, paid experience with esports firms, digital media agencies, and event organizations.

  • Internships & Projects: Available for students not enrolled in co-op; includes project-based courses and esports consulting opportunities.

  • Student Involvement: Participation in esports clubs, gaming societies, and business competitions for networking and skill-building.

Progression & Future Opportunities

  • Prepares students for careers in esports management, digital content, live event logistics, marketing, and analytics.

  • Skills gained are highly transferable to sports, entertainment, and tech industries.

  • Graduates are equipped for graduate study in areas such as MBA, MS in Sport Management, and Digital Media.

  • 92% of graduates are employed or enrolled in further study within a year.
