Full-Time MBA & STEM MBA

21 Months On Campus Bachelors Program

Michigan State University

Program Overview

The Traditional Full-Time MBA and STEM MBA are two curriculum pathways within the same full-time MBA programme, not two completely separate degrees. Students follow the same core curriculum, while the STEM pathway places greater emphasis on quantitative subjects and restricts elective choices to more quantitative courses.

Program Overview

The Full-Time MBA at Michigan State University's Eli Broad College of Business is designed to develop adaptable business leaders with strong analytical, strategic and management capabilities. Through a combination of core business courses, specialised concentrations, experiential learning and career development support, students build the knowledge and professional connections needed to advance into leadership roles across industries.

Curriculum Structure

The 21-month programme requires 54 credits and combines three main components: the MBA core curriculum, a selected concentration and elective courses. Classes are held on campus, Monday through Thursday, during standard business hours.

First Year – Developing Core Business Knowledge: Students build a foundation across key business functions, including accounting, finance, marketing, management, business communications and supply chain management. The curriculum develops an understanding of how organisations operate and how business decisions affect overall performance. Students also strengthen their leadership, teamwork, communication and analytical skills through collaborative learning and professional development activities.

Summer – Experiential and Professional Development: Students use the summer period for an enrichment experience that supports their professional and academic goals. This may include an internship, practical business experience or other approved learning opportunities. The experience helps students apply their classroom knowledge, explore career options and build connections with employers.

Second Year – Concentration and Advanced Business Learning: Students develop deeper expertise through a primary concentration and a selection of electives. Available concentration areas include Business Analytics, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Human Resources and Strategic Management, Marketing and Supply Chain Management. The STEM MBA pathway focuses on more quantitative coursework, particularly in areas such as analytics, finance and supply chain management.

Focus Areas

Business analytics, corporate social responsibility and sustainability, entrepreneurship, finance, human resources, strategic management, marketing, supply chain management, business communications, accounting and organisational leadership.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates develop the ability to evaluate business challenges, analyse organisational performance and make informed strategic decisions. They strengthen their financial, analytical and managerial capabilities while learning to lead teams, communicate effectively and manage business operations. Students following the STEM MBA pathway gain additional quantitative expertise, particularly in data analysis and evidence-based decision-making.

Experiential Learning

The programme offers practical learning opportunities through case competitions, team-based projects, cultural immersion experiences and student organisations. Students can participate in competitions such as the National Black MBA, SEC and IDEAcorps events, where they work on business challenges and present solutions. The summer enrichment experience provides opportunities to gain professional exposure, including internships. Students also benefit from the Burgess Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, which supports entrepreneurial projects and business development.

Professional Alignment

The Eli Broad College of Business is accredited by AACSB International. The STEM MBA pathway incorporates a stronger quantitative curriculum, making it suitable for students interested in data-driven business management. Eligible international graduates of the STEM-designated pathway may qualify for an extended Optional Practical Training (OPT) period of up to 36 months, subject to applicable US immigration requirements.
