B.B.A. in Information Technology

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Texas Tech University

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration in Information Technology at Texas Tech University’s Jerry S. Rawls College of Business is designed for students who want to combine business knowledge with technology, learning how to use data and computing solutions to address real organizational challenges. Students build expertise in areas such as systems analysis and design, database management, software development, networking, information security, and data analytics, with the option to develop their studies through Systems or Data Analytics concentrations.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students begin by establishing their business and quantitative foundations through Rawls' introductory curriculum, while developing the analytical and technology-oriented skills needed for later IT coursework. The updated Rawls Foundations curriculum emphasizes four competencies—Business Minded, Human Centric, Data Driven, and Tech Savvy—and introduces students to practical business experiences from the beginning of their degree.

Year 2: Students move further into business and technology preparation, with the recommended IT pathway allowing students to take ISQS 3345 – Analytics and Development with Python and ISQS 3348 – Database Management Systems as they progress into upper-division study. These courses introduce programming-based analytics and database technologies that form the foundation for more advanced IT work.

Year 3: Students develop broader technical and business capabilities through ISQS 3358 – Business Intelligence, BECO 3310 – Applied Business Economics, and SCM 3353 – Supply Chain and Operations Management, while MKT 3350 – Marketing for a Global Marketplace adds an understanding of business in a global environment. The curriculum connects technology with communication, management, finance, marketing, and operational decision-making.

Year 4: Students specialize in either systems or data analytics. Systems students can study ISQS 3349 – Data Communications and Security, ISQS 3360 – Information Security, ISQS 4350 – Information Systems Project Management, and ISQS 4351 – Web Design Implementation, while the Data Analytics concentration includes ISQS 3352 – Data Visualization, ISQS 4370 – Data Mining, ISQS 4371 – Analytics for Optimal Decision Making, and ISQS 4373 – Simulation for Business Analytics; both pathways include ISQS 4349 – Information Systems Analysis and Design.
