Program Overview

The Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration – General Studies at the University of Florida’s Heavener School of Business combines a broad business foundation with a customizable area of specialization, allowing students to connect business studies with interests such as criminology, tourism, healthcare, mass communication, sport management, real estate, pre-law or other disciplines. The 120-credit, four-year program develops knowledge across finance, management, marketing, operations, statistics, business analytics and AI while giving students flexibility to build a career-focused interdisciplinary pathway.

Curriculum Structure

First Year: Students establish their business and quantitative foundation through introductory requirements in economics, mathematics, computing and accounting before progressing into the business curriculum. The program's critical-tracking preparation includes courses such as ECO 2013 Principles of Macroeconomics, ECO 2023 Principles of Microeconomics, ISM 3013 Information Systems in Organizations, STA 2023 Introduction to Statistics, and MAC 2233 Survey of Calculus 1.

Second Year: Students begin developing a broader understanding of how businesses operate while continuing their required business preparation and general education studies. Courses such as FIN 3403 Business Finance, MAN 3025 Principles of Management, and MAR 3023 Principles of Marketing introduce students to financial decision-making, organizational management and customer-focused business strategy.

Third Year: Students move deeper into the business core and begin applying business concepts to their selected area of specialization. GEB 3373 International Business, MAN 4504 Operations and Supply Chain Management, and QMB 3250 Statistics for Business Decisions develop students' understanding of global business, operational processes and quantitative decision-making.

Fourth Year: Students complete advanced business study, their chosen 3000/4000-level specialization courses and approved business electives while developing career-ready skills. The curriculum includes BUL 4310 The Legal Environment of Business, QMB 3302 Foundations of Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and professional-development options such as GEB 4900 Leadership Launch, helping students connect business knowledge with their career direction.

Students can build practical experience through several opportunities:

Business Internship: Students can complete GEB 4941 Internship in Business Administration alongside an internship of at least 150 hours.
Micro-Consulting Externship: GEB 3942 Externship – Micro-consulting places students in teams where they consult a business on its challenges while developing communication and problem-solving skills.
Business Analytics and AI: QMB 3302 Foundations of Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) gives students exposure to business analytics and AI within the core curriculum.
Study Abroad: Students can study business overseas and experience another country's cultural and business practices; selected international programs can also satisfy the Heavener internship requirement.
Project-Based International Experience: UF's Japan program includes GEB 4956 Business Consulting in a Global Setting, using a project-based model in which students examine management consulting frameworks for solving complex business problems.
