Program Overview

The Management, B.S. in Business Administration at the University of Nevada, Reno develops students' ability to plan, organize, lead and control business activities while building knowledge across human resources, operations, technology, finance and strategic planning. Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students begin with the business fundamentals needed for the major, including ACC 201 Financial Accounting, ACC 202 Managerial Accounting, ECON 102 Microeconomics, ECON 103 Macroeconomics, IS 101 Introduction to Information Systems and MKT 210 Marketing Principles. They also develop quantitative skills through ECON 261 Principles of Statistics I, ECON 262 Principles of Statistics II and MATH 176 Business Calculus, while completing the University's Silver Core requirements.

Year 2: Students progress from the pre-business foundation into upper-division business study, developing knowledge in areas such as finance, information systems, management and operations. Courses such as FIN 301, IS 301, MGT 301 or MGT 323, MGT 325 and SCM 352 Supply Chain Management introduce students to financial management, business technology, management principles, the legal environment of business and operational decision-making.

Year 3: The management major becomes more specialized, with required coursework including MGT 367, MGT 423, MGT 466 and MGT 486, allowing students to explore management topics involving organizations, people, leadership and business decision-making. Students also complete MGT 480 International Business, strengthening their understanding of business activities across national and cultural boundaries.

Year 4: In the final stage, students complete advanced management coursework and electives that allow them to shape the degree around their professional interests. MGT 496, together with management electives such as MGT 462, MGT 468, MGT 470, MGT 473, MGT 485, MGT 488 and MGT 491, provides opportunities to deepen knowledge in areas such as strategy, entrepreneurship, organizational management and related business topics.
