Program Overview

The Management, B.S.B.A. at the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business combines a broad business foundation with focused preparation in leadership, human resources, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior and strategic management. It is particularly suited to students who enjoy working with people, solving organizational challenges or building businesses, with opportunities to pursue Management of Human Resources, Entrepreneurship or Business Leadership and optional concentrations in Business Analytics or Sustainability in Business.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students establish their business foundation through subjects such as ENGL 101 – Critical Reading and Composition, MATH 122 – Calculus for Business Administration and Social Sciences, ACCT 225 – Introduction to Financial Accounting, STAT 206 – Elementary Statistics for Business and MGSC 290 – Computer Information Systems in Business. These courses develop communication, quantitative reasoning, financial literacy and an understanding of how technology supports business decisions.

Year 2: Students move into the core business curriculum with MGMT 250 – Professional Communication, BADM 301 – Business Careers in the Global Economy, MGSC 291 – Applied Statistics for Business, FINA 363 – Introduction to Finance, MGMT 371 – Principles of Management, MGSC 395 – Operations Management and MKTG 350 – Principles of Marketing. This stage connects management principles with finance, marketing, operations, communication and analytical decision-making.

Year 3: Students begin developing their chosen management direction through courses such as MGMT 373 – Entrepreneurship and New Venture Opportunities, while completing business law, international-focused coursework and their selected concentration or supporting studies. Students interested in entrepreneurship can progress to MGMT 473 – Developing and Launching New Ventures, while other management pathways allow deeper study of areas such as employee engagement, talent management, leadership, negotiation and human resources analytics.

Year 4: The final year emphasizes advanced strategy and applied management thinking through courses such as MGMT 478 – Strategic Management and MGMT 479 – Applications in Entrepreneurship and New Ventures. Depending on their pathway, students can also develop specialized skills through subjects such as MGMT 403 – Leadership in Organizations, MGMT 405 – Talent Management, MGMT 408 – Managing Today's Global Workforce, or MGMT 425 – Analytics for the Human Resources Professional.

Learning Outcomes

Students develop an understanding of how managers build effective organizations, how research can improve managerial practice, how management principles can be applied to organizational challenges and opportunities, and how to communicate management principles effectively. The program also develops management, business writing, intercultural competence, conflict management, decision-making and organizational skills.

The Management B.S.B.A. is offered through the Darla Moore School of Business, which maintains AACSB Business Accreditation. The Management B.S.B.A. connects management theory with practical experiences in entrepreneurship, human resources, leadership and organizational development. Students can gain professional experience through a for-credit management internship, immersive entrepreneurship projects, employer events, student organizations and global learning opportunities, while the Moore School provides dedicated spaces designed for collaboration, career preparation and interaction with the business community.

Students can put their management skills into practice through:

  • Business Internship in Management: MGMT 499 provides supervised work experience approved by the department and can carry 3–6 credit hours. Students work with an organization and apply management knowledge in a professional setting.

  • Applied Entrepreneurship Projects: MGMT 479 – Applications in Entrepreneurship and New Ventures uses immersive projects through which students apply entrepreneurial concepts, tools and frameworks to advance a new or established venture.

  • New Venture Development: Entrepreneurship students progress through MGMT 373 – Entrepreneurship and New Venture Opportunities, MGMT 473 – Developing and Launching New Ventures and MGMT 474 – Executing Strategy in New Ventures, giving students an applied pathway from opportunity development to execution.

  • Human Resources Experience: Students interested in HR can explore professional topics through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), which connects students with developments and professional opportunities in human resources and industrial relations.

  • Business EXPO: The Moore School's Office of Career Management hosts a Business EXPO every semester, providing opportunities to meet employers offering full-time positions and internships. More than 100 employers were expected at the Spring 2026 EXPO.

  • Career Technology: Students use Handshake for job postings, on-campus interviews and corporate information sessions, supported by resume reviews, mock interviews, online assessments and career coaching.

  • Global Classrooms: Moore School students can participate in faculty-led Global Classroom courses that include multinational business meetings with companies and cultural experiences in more than 20 locations worldwide; these experiences are open to all majors.

  • Entrepreneurship Club: The Entrepreneurship Club provides an additional environment for students to develop entrepreneurial interests and connect with the business community.

  • Collaborative Business Facilities: The Darla Moore School building includes a computer lab, Dominion Energy Study Commons, collaborative learning spaces, a Center for Business Communication and the Office of Career Management, supporting both academic and professional development.

  • Business Community Interaction: The Moore School building is designed as a hub for education, business and community engagement, with spaces that facilitate collaboration between students, faculty and members of the business community.
