BSBA Major in General Business

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Drexel University

Program Overview

The BSBA Major in General Business at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business gives students a broad foundation across management, marketing, finance, operations, accounting, economics and other business disciplines, making it a strong option for students who want flexibility rather than a narrowly specialized business degree. Students develop analytical reasoning, communication, teamwork and strategic decision-making skills while using case studies, team projects, consulting experiences and experiential learning to connect business concepts with real organizational challenges.

Curriculum Structure

First Year: Students begin by building their core business and analytical foundation through courses such as BUSN 101 – Foundations of Business I, BUSN 102 – Foundations of Business II, and BUSN 105 – Applied Business Analysis. They are introduced to business organizations, professional communication, teamwork and spreadsheet-based problem solving, while courses such as ECON 201 – Principles of Microeconomics and BSAN 160 – Business Analytics and Data Visualization develop their understanding of economic and data-driven decision-making.

Second Year: Students broaden their understanding of the major business functions through subjects such as ACCT 115 – Financial Accounting Foundations, ECON 202 – Principles of Macroeconomics, and ORGB 300 – Organizational Behavior. The flexible structure also allows students to begin selecting General Business Major Electives from areas such as finance, marketing, management, international business, human resources, business law, operations and management information systems.

Third Year: Students move further into cross-functional business knowledge and can combine disciplines according to their career interests. Courses such as FIN 301 – Introduction to Finance, MKTG 201 – Introduction to Marketing Management, and MIS 200 – Management Information Systems allow students to understand financial decisions, customer and market activity, and the role of information systems in organizations.

Fourth Year: The final stage emphasizes strategic thinking and the application of business knowledge through advanced electives and MGMT 450 – Strategy and Competitive Advantage. Students can use their remaining General Business Major Electives and Business Impact Elective to create a personalized academic pathway, while co-op or other experiential opportunities can provide professional exposure before graduation.
