4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Miami

Program Overview

The B.B.A. in General Business, officially listed in the current University of Miami academic bulletin as the B.B.A. in Individualized General Business, is designed for students who want to build a customized business specialization around their interests, career goals, or plans for graduate study. Alongside the BBA Business Core, students select at least 18 credits of upper-level Miami Herbert Business School coursework, allowing them to connect different business disciplines while developing a personalized area of expertise.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Students establish a broad business foundation through courses such as ECO 211 Principles of Microeconomics, MGT 100 Managing for Success in the Global Environment, and MKT 201 Foundations of Marketing. They also develop academic communication and quantitative skills through WRS 105 First-Year Writing I, WRS 106 First-Year Writing II, and MAS 110 Quantitative Applications in Business or MTH 161 Calculus I.

Year 2: The curriculum develops students' understanding of how businesses operate financially, technologically, and ethically through ACC 211 Principles of Financial Accounting, ACC 212 Managerial Accounting, and BSL 212 Introduction to Business Law and Ethics. Students also study BUS 150 Business Analytics, MAS 201 Introduction to Business Statistics, and MAS 202 Intermediate Business Statistics, strengthening their ability to use business information for decision-making.

Year 3: Students progress into more advanced business study through the core areas of FIN 302 Fundamentals of Finance, MGT 303 Operations Management, and MGT 304 Organizational Behavior. This is also where the individualized nature of the degree becomes particularly valuable, as students can begin shaping their specialization through upper-level 300–500-level Miami Herbert Business School courses selected around their academic and career interests.

Year 4: Students complete their individualized business specialization by reaching the required 18 credits of upper-level coursework, while bringing together their broader business knowledge through MGT 401 Strategic Management, which is taken in the final semester. The customized structure can support different interests across areas such as analytics, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, management, technology, supply chain, or other Miami Herbert business disciplines.
