Gallaudet UniversityOur Education programs are designed to prepare students for careers as teachers, researchers, educational leaders, and international development advocates. Whether you’re interested in pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in General Education or branching into our Master’s program to focus your studies on Deaf education, we have various tracks available to suit your interests and prepare you for success in your education career.
• Application • Unofficial High School Transcript • One written essay and one video essay in American Sign Language • A letter of recommendation from an academic teacher who teaches a core subject such as English, mathematics, or social studies • Audiogram • Certification of Finances form • Sponsor’s Affidavit of Support form
Enroll in or complete EDU 250 – Introduction to Education, Enroll in or complete LIN 101 – Introduction to Linguistics
Submit one (1) novice-level disposition assessment from faculty or staff
Complete the Disposition Self-Assessment
Interview: Applicants who the Program Committee interviews will either- be accepted into the program and take the Praxis II Content Knowledge test the following semester, not accepted into the program — applicants can re-apply the following semester US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Applicants are generally assessed on their preparation in English, social sciences, research and quantitative reasoning. Statistics may be particularly helpful for Psychology, Education Research, Public Policy and other research-based programs. Volunteering, tutoring, community projects, advocacy, research, student leadership and activities involving communication or social issues may strengthen the application.Essays & recommendations: Personal essays and teacher/counselor recommendations give context to your achievements and help demonstrate fit with the program.Elementary Teacher
