The BS in Aviation at Andrews University is a four-year, on-campus program designed to prepare students for careers as professional pilots, flight instructors, or in aviation management and operations. Curriculum structure:
Year 1: You’ll begin with foundational courses such as AFLT 110 Basic Aircraft Systems, AFLT 115 Private Pilot Ground School, AFLT 121 Flight Training 1, AFLT 122 Flight Training 2, and general education requirements.
Year 2: You’ll progress to AFLT 215 Instrument Pilot Ground School, AFLT 220 Meteorology, AFLT 226 Flight Training 3, AFLT 227 Flight Training 4, AFLT 230 Aerodynamics, and continue with general education and elective courses.
Year 3: You’ll take advanced modules including AFLT 300 Aviation Safety Management, AFLT 305 Commercial Pilot Ground School, AFLT 310 Advanced Systems, AFLT 321 Flight Training 5, AFLT 322 Flight Training 6, AFLT 323 Flight Training 7, and AFLT 324 Flight Training 8.
Year 4: The final year features AFLT 340 Airspace and Air Traffic Control, AFLT 415 Basic Physiology for Pilots, AFLT 426 Multiengine Flight Training, AFLT 430 Crew Resource Management, and preparation for the Air Transport Pilot written exam. Students also complete electives and a capstone experience.
Focus areas: Flight training, aircraft systems, aerodynamics, aviation safety, airspace and air traffic control, meteorology, crew resource management, physiology for pilots, and aviation regulations.
Learning outcomes: Graduates are prepared for FAA certification as Private, Commercial, and Multi-Engine pilots, as well as Certified Flight Instructors. They are equipped for careers in airline, corporate, or mission aviation, and may pursue roles in flight operations, instruction, or management.
Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by the FAA. Graduates are eligible for the restricted ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certificate with reduced flight hour requirements.

High school completion: Complete secondary/high school education and meet Andrews University’s country-specific academic requirements.
A cumulative high school GPA of 2.75 or higher* is required.
ACT scores of 20 and above in all skills, or SAT scores of 530 in Evidence-Based Reading & Writing and 520 in Math are required for regular admissions.
A college preparatory curriculum is encouraged, including 4 years of English, 3 years of History/Social Studies, 3 years of laboratory science, and 3 years of mathematics (Algebra I or higher).

Admissions with no test scores: a 3.50cgpa and the college preparatory curriculum detailed in High School Curriculum Requirements above is required.
Students who do not meet the high school curriculum requirements or exam scores above may be eligible for admission through alternate academic advising levels, including the Andrews Gateway program.
High school juniors may be eligible for early admission with a PSAT composite score of 1100 or higher and a cumulative GPA of 3.25 after the first semester of their junior year.
I-20 requirements include a passport copy and mailing address, proof of financial resources for one academic year, a $3,000 international student deposit, a $100 non-refundable international student fee, and a $6,000 advance payment toward first-semester tuition and fees. US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Engineering applicants are generally assessed on the strength of their preparation in advanced Mathematics and laboratory sciences, particularly Physics and Chemistry. Calculus, technical projects, robotics, engineering competitions, research and evidence of practical problem-solving can strengthen the application.
