The Masters Degree Program in Aeronautics is a one year program that provides advanced training in the areas of aeronautics or aerospace beyond that covered in a four year undergraduate program. The program consists of a set of five core courses (see details below). There is no research requirement nor is a thesis required to obtain the degree.
Common Application, a Statement of Purpose, Test scores: GRE, TOEFL, and/or IELTS test scores to be sent directly to the California Institute of Technology (Institutional Code 4034), An official electronic copy of your transcripts or online grade reports issued by your college or university, 3 letters of recommendation, a CV or Resume. US universities use a holistic admissions review. Beyond grades and standardized test scores, they weigh the strength of your overall profile to understand who you are as a student and a person.
Profile Assessment: Engineering applicants are generally assessed on the strength of their preparation in advanced Mathematics and laboratory sciences, particularly Physics and Chemistry. Calculus, technical projects, robotics, engineering competitions, research and evidence of practical problem-solving can strengthen the application. Universities may also look for creativity, teamwork and the ability to apply scientific concepts to real-world challenges.Advanced Placement(AP) Guidance: AP availability depends on the student's school. Relevant APs can strengthen an application and may earn university credit, but are not compulsory unless the university or programme explicitly requires them.Extracurricular activities: Estimated extracurricular contribution: 15–25%. Caltech particularly values scientific curiosity, experimentation, and collaborative problem-solving. Research, mathematics, science competitions, engineering projects and independent technical work may be helpful.
