4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
The Construction Engineering Technology: Heavy, BSET at Oklahoma State University is a 4-year, on-campus bachelor’s program for students interested in the management and technical execution of heavy and highway construction, including estimating, scheduling, site development, equipment, materials, and construction operations. The program combines construction technology with engineering-related coursework and practical training to prepare students for roles such as project manager, estimator, field engineer, superintendent, project engineer, and scheduler.
Curriculum structure
Year 1: Students begin with the fundamentals of construction and engineering technology through courses such as CET 1213 – Introduction to Construction, CET 2253 – Printreading & BIM, and MATH 2144 – Calculus I. They also establish their scientific and communication foundations through PHYS 1114 – College Physics I, ENGL 1113 – Composition I, and related general education coursework.
Year 2: Students move into core construction processes and quantitative skills through CET 2263 – Estimating I, CET 2333 – Construction Practices and Procedures, and CET 2343 – Concrete Technology. Courses such as ENSC 2113 – Statics, ACCT 2103 – Financial Accounting, and SPCH 2713 – Introduction to Speech Communication add the analytical, financial, and communication skills needed in construction environments.
Year 3: The curriculum becomes more focused on field operations and project coordination through CET 3163 – Field Engineering Applications, CET 3273 – Scheduling Construction Projects, and CET 4263 – Estimating II. Students also gain practical exposure through CET 3322 – Construction Practicum I, CET 3332 – Construction Practicum II, CIVE 3614 – Engineering Surveying, and CIVE 4711 – Basic Soils Testing Laboratory.
Year 4: Students integrate their technical, management, and field knowledge through advanced courses including CET 4293 – Construction Manager Concepts, CET 4533 – Heavy Civil Construction and Estimating, and CET 4663 – Concrete Design & Formwork. The final stage also covers CET 4553 – Structural Steel Design & Connections, CET 4563 – Construction Law and Insurance, CET 4443 – Construction Safety and Loss Control, and CET 4283 – Business Practices for Construction, giving students a broad professional foundation for heavy construction careers.
Focus areas: Heavy/highway construction, construction estimating, scheduling, field engineering, site development, construction equipment, concrete and structural construction, surveying, soils, safety, construction management and construction law.
Learning outcomes: Apply mathematics, science, engineering technology and modern technical tools to construction problems; design systems, components and processes for broadly defined construction engineering problems; communicate effectively in written, oral and graphical formats; conduct tests and measurements and interpret results; and work effectively as both a team member and leader.
Professional alignment (accreditation): The Bachelor of Science program in Construction Engineering Technology at Oklahoma State University is accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of ABET under the General Criteria and Program Criteria for Construction Engineering Technology and Similarly Named Programs.
Reputation (employability rankings): Oklahoma State University reports 100% job placement for its Construction Engineering Technology program, while its university-wide rankings page lists OSU among the Top 40 Public Universities in America in Niche’s 2025 rankings and in the top 20% of Best Colleges in America in College Factual’s 2025 ranking.
The Construction Engineering Technology: Heavy, BSET at Oklahoma State University is strongly practice-oriented, combining construction technology coursework with hands-on laboratory activities, field engineering, construction practicums, estimating, scheduling, site development, and heavy civil construction. Students gain direct experience in OSU’s dedicated Construction Laboratory, including concrete and soils facilities, while ENDEAVOR, CEAT’s 72,000-square-foot undergraduate laboratory, provides an additional environment for interdisciplinary, hands-on learning; the program also highlights industry-experienced faculty and guaranteed internships.
Students develop practical construction skills through:
The Construction Engineering Technology: Heavy, BSET prepares graduates for careers focused on heavy/highway and industrial construction, with OSU identifying roles such as project manager, estimator, superintendent, field engineer, project engineer, and scheduler. The program includes two required 400-hour internships, and OSU reports a 100% job-placement rate for CET students, giving graduates substantial opportunities to connect classroom learning with construction-industry experience.
Career opportunities: Project Manager, Estimator, Superintendent, Field Engineer.
Further Academic Progression: After completing the BSET, students can continue into graduate-level study at Oklahoma State University, including the Master of Science in Engineering Technology. OSU also offers graduate certificates in areas such as Construction Project Administration, Engineering Management, and Supply Chain and Logistics, while students seeking a research-intensive engineering pathway can explore OSU’s graduate programs in fields including Civil Engineering.
