Program Overview

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering at Illinois Tech is an ABET-accredited program that delivers a balanced blend of hardware and software engineering.

It provides a comprehensive foundation in algorithmic techniques, analytical thinking, circuit theory, digital systems, and software engineering, preparing students for careers in security systems, biomedicine, robotics, gaming, telecommunications, and more.

Course Overview:

  • Year 1: Calculus I & II, Principles of Chemistry, General Physics, Object Oriented Programming, Career Elective, Social Sciences Electives

  • Year 2: Introduction to Differential Equations, Multivariate and Vector Calculus, Circuit Analysis, General Physics, Discrete Structures, Career Electives
  • Year 3: IPRO Elective, Junior CPE Elective, Operating Systems, Systetns Programming, Probability and Stats, Social Sciences Electives, Humanities Electives, Career Electives 

  • Year 4: Computer Organization and Design, Intro to VLSI Design, Smart and Connected Embedded Systems Desing, IPRO Elective, Professional CPE Elective, Social Sciences Electives, Humanities Elective, Computer Systems/ Software Elective

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Laboratory Courses: Students complete extensive lab work in circuits, digital systems, electronics, and embedded system design.

  • Capstone Design: A major design experience focusing on smart and connected embedded systems, where students develop and present a substantial project.

  • Interprofessional Projects (IPRO): Illinois Tech’s signature team-based projects that encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration and develop essential project management and communication skills.
