The Department of Comparative Literature and Foreign Languages offers the Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in:Asian literatures and cultures students choose a Chinese or Japanese track and study Asian languages, cultures, and literatures. Language proficiency and some courses in literature in culture are required. Students can study literature in the original language or focus on culture, history, and literature using texts in English translation.French Focused on a core study of French culture, literature, and language, students can take the major with the options French literature or French civilization, which focuses on the culture and people of France.Germanic Studies The major offers a diverse curriculum ranging from beginning language classes to advanced study of literary and cultural topics. Students work closely with a faculty advisor to form a program of study.Russian Studies The major is for students who are interested in Russian language and literature, and history and civilization. Students work closely with advisors to plan a coherent program of courses that match the student's interests.Language The major allows students to specialize in two or three foreign languages, their creative use in literature, and the cultures and civilizations they reflect.The department also offers courses in Italian literature, language, and civilization; and Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese languages.
