Program Overview

This program s curriculum offers students professional job-oriented courses in print, broadcast, online journalism and web-based productions and designs. A key cause of students' high interest in this Program is its hands-on, professional skills oriented practicum and internship program. Students spend two full semesters working on student newspapers and magazines such as The Collegian, The State, Advocate, Plenum, and university wide organizations, like Sports Information Department, University PR and Marketing, 1890 Research, Student Affairs, SCSU Public radio WSSB, student media, TV facilities, etc. In addition, students complete one to two semesters of professional internships in off campus newspapers, magazines, online media, and radio-TV and PR agencies. In the last two years, 21students from the Program have completed their professional internships in different local and national media outlets and agencies in Orangeburg, Columbia, Charleston, Rock Hill/Charlotte, Atlanta, Chicago, Newark, and New York.
