Program Overview

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Studies major is an interdisciplinary program of study that offers students the opportunity to develop an understanding of the complex and dynamic historical, cultural, political, economic, linguistic, and religious issues in the region as well as their inherent interconnections. Courses draw on the expertise of faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and departments, including anthropology, history, literature (Arabic and French), music, politics, and religious studies. Courses should be chosen carefully, in close consultation with the student s academic adviser and with regard to the resources of the Claremont Colleges. MENA Studies provides preparation for students considering careers in public policy, politics, education, social work, law, business, diplomacy, journalism, and scholarly research. The MENA Studies curriculum includes courses from all five Claremont Colleges.
