Proficiency in the Mandarin language is an invaluable skill for many careers---business, international affairs, missions and development, to name a few. Learning Mandarin will help you communicate and collaborate with a substantial portion of the world's population. You will also be prepared to better understand and respond to the economic and political realities of China, a country that continues to rise in prominence on the world stage.An understanding of how language works is invaluable for the study of any language, including Mandarin. At Gordon, you can take your Mandarin studies to a deeper level by adding linguistics courses and spending a semester abroad. Here, you won't be too far away from multiple venues where you can bring your Mandarin studies to life---you might take the weekend to visit Chinatown in Boston, or familiarize yourself with Chinese cuisine by going shopping at the Chinese market in Malden.

The minor consists of 8 credits in intermediate courses at Gordon and 12 credits in intermediate- and upper-level courses through the Beijing Asian Program at Beijing University or through another approved program in China.
